The Stalker's Guide to Punkie

Updated January 3rd, 2003

This shows where I'll most likely be in the next year or so if you want to stop by and say hi, buy my book, and discuss life, the universe, and, well, you know... everything! Note, these are events I am planning to attend. But if things come up, like family, work, or "out-of-money" experiences, don't be too disappointed if I don't show up. I will usually have books with me, and as always, I sign them for free!

2003 - The Year of the Ram

Katsucon 9 - Feb 14-16, 2003 in Crystal City, Virginia [web site]
This is my BIG anime convention (about 5000). I do the pre-registration, act as stage manager for opening ceremonies, plus a lot of other smaller jobs (including test panels).

This is one of the bigger anime conventions on the East Coast. They have everything you could want, like a huge Costume Call (they are famous for it), major guests, tons of artists, a lot of merchants, and the usual industry people. It usually has three to four video rooms, which are playing almost around the clock, and often have new releases or premieres. They are a fully incorporated non-profit group for the furthering of Japanese study of culture through animation.

Balticon 37 - May 23 - 26, 2003 in Baltimore, Maryland [web site]
I have been going to these cons since 1985! I will probably do some panels as well as late night security, and possibly helping out with the computer room.

Balticon is run by BSFS, the Baltimore Science Fiction Society, which has been around since the 1960s, and has some of the more "old school" people of sci-fi fandom. They have panels, guests, merchants, movies, and a lot of filking and late night parties.

Castlecon 16 - July 4-6 in Reston, Virginia [web site]
My summer con! I love these FanTek folks! I'll be in their main programming, as well as my usual Emcee work, giving talks, Art Auction, and probably just bumming around. See me in the pool!

Evecon is FanTek's Summer pool party convention. It's mainly themed for science fiction and fantasy, but has a lot more. It's small (around 600), but relaxing. It has a HUGE gaming room, a lot of stuff in the computer room, plus panels, classes, movies, singers, comedy groups, Legos, an art show (one of the best, which my wife has been running for years now), and a lot of silly late-night goings on. This is one fun bunch of weirdos.

Maryland Renaissance Festival - Fall of 2003 in Crownsville, MD [web site]
Huzzah! Have I missed one yet? I wear the famous costume of total black clothing with a black backpack. Some say I look like a hippie Johnny Cash, which I think all historians agree, was the from the post Renaissance period. Come see me try to avoid getting stung my bees again, as I eat fried dough and cheesecake on a stick, probably from the Tudor period.

For those who have never been there, it's a lot of fun. It's outside, in a forest, with lots of merchants, places to eat, pubs, jousts, and hundreds of actors in costume, playing out scenes. You don't have to dress up in that period, but it's a fun thing to do if you can. It's truly where mundanes meet fandom. County Fair rednecks meet the intellectual outcasts. There is singing, dancing, and a fun time for all.

Evecon 21 - December 2003 in Reston, Virginia [web site]
My home con! I love these FanTek folks! I'll be in their main programming, as well as my usual Emcee work, giving talks, Art Auction, and probably just bumming around.

Evecon is FanTek's winter convention.
